There are lots of messages of hope out there in the ether as we start this new year, even as we remain immersed in war, shifting geopolitical alignments, climate emergencies, concerning inflation, flailing healthcare systems, and divisive politics. As an example of the latter, our main entertainment over the past two days has been watching the U.S. House Republicans struggling to elect their own House Speaker, still without success as of this writing. Sorry, Americans, but you have to admit that it makes pretty compelling drama!
A little humour might help lighten the load, at least a tiny bit, while we work on our hope. Without further ado, I hope you enjoy my contributions to your chuckles for the day!
Good chuckles, Jane, while we work on that hope. Someone once said to me about my name that I have both Joy and Hope in it – a great compliment and also two qualities I can draw upon when times are tough. Happy Thursday!

Oh, my, those really are two stellar qualities, Joyce, and you’re doing a good job of trying to live by them! I wonder if I can find some kind of positive anagram from careful selection of letters in my names. A long shot, but I’ll give it a try. 😊

Without ‘hope’ life is almost impossible. In fact my toast to the New Year was for ‘hope’ and ‘change’ (a good suggestion by fellow blogger John Persico https://agingcapriciously.com/2022/12/31/thoughts-to-start-2023-and-begin-a-new-year/).
It has to be your last image for me Jane! Grandmas are often in trouble for making things that little bit easier!! 😇🤫

The world has a desperate need for hope and CHANGE in these unsettled times; John Persico’s posts are always thought-provoking and on the mark. LOL, that’s what I love about being a grandparent, “bending” rules in support of perfect grandchildren! 😏😊

A fun way to start the year, and my favorite was the Hosanna one. As for the Speaker of the House debacle… those of us on the other side are watching the show with a mixture of glee, horror, and smugness. Why can’t they just get along? Why can’t they meet in the middle? (Smirk, smirk.)

Exactly. That’s why it’s so much fun to watch!! 😏 And I’m delighted that you liked the Hosanna joke. I thought I might be the only one!

Hi Alison! Yes, me, too. It explains why I always love the grandma jokes. And … we’re not all so lucky as to have a collection of grandkids so close at hand! 😊

Thanks for the chuckles. I especially I enjoyed, “…now reapplying for the job again?” Between that and the current Supreme Court debacle, one must ponder the question, “What hath we wrought?” Good lord and heaven help us! 🤪 LOL!

It really is all impossible to fathom, isn’t it, Julia?! What hath we wrought, indeed. 😳🥲

Omg the first one! I was buying vitamins last week. Could the print be any smaller?

I know, it’s mind-boggling to think that we should be able to read the instructions OR the required-by-law disclaimers/warnings! I actually like this idea of taking a pic and expanding it. Brilliant!!

Agreed! I’ve done it a lot!

You’ve got me in stitches, Jane! I love each of these but need to confess/share that the ‘cold shoulder’ joke was so spot-on. I believe I’ve tried that, a time or two, and the hubster was unfazed, just reveling in the quiet and absence of “Vicki chatter”. LOL! Big hugs! 🤍🤍🤍

LOL! That’s what makes jokes funny, right, that they’re nailing the truth! 😂🤣

I LOVE it …. ALL of them but #1, 6 & 7 are my favorites. Being an American & living the ‘drama,’ #6 is my MOST favorite. So many of us are simply ‘all trumped out’ & view that whole mess as tired, tedious & still frightening … SIGH. But, as you pointed out & as we go into day #3 as the drama / saga continues attempting to select a Speaker of the House, it is like being witness to an entire hen house filled with chickens with their heads cut off. I doubt it will end today & if McCarthy wins that position he will have made so many ridiculous concessions that the position will be meaningless. With the addition of newly elected congressman Santos, we are living a comedy (an embarrassing comedy).
Missing Nancy Pelosi & feeling grateful for the adult Biden administration. Also feeling grateful for humor that often keeps the boat from sinking.

I know, it’s astounding. I suppose you could say that this is simply democracy in action; that’s what authoritarians are able to avoid! 😏 And I have to say that I was very impressed by freshman Rep. John James, who nominated McCarthy (the 7th nomination!). But it’s truly extraordinary that these few so-called Rebels are holding their own Party, Congress, and the country’s business to ransom. I may have to seek out some more humor to share.

Yes, please DO keep the humor coming …
I’d just told my husband at lunch that I was amazed that so few with so little experience are actually holding McCarthy hostage & in effect, the country, which is currently paralyzed.
AND I just heard that McCarthy has lost the vote a 7th. time … (shaking my head)
SO, YES, keep that humor coming …
(I’m sending you something humorous on Messenger. Feel free to use it if you like)

Thank-you so much for the funnies! Using our phone to enlarge and read fine print, LOL, that’s us. As for the applicant reapplying for his old job, I’m worried his employers might be ok with that?. I won’t get into the politics today, as it’ll ruin the good time you started. Go ask Grandma – it works for our grandkids… sort of. Their other grandma and I keep in touch, so the grandbabies aren’t always able to ‘butter us up’ into buying them things. They are skilled complementors though,😊.
