With so much upset all around us, we need to be able to seek happiness within ourselves. I know that it can be easier said than done, and that it’s easier for some people than others by reason of circumstance or temperament. But happiness is so worth working on. Every day.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: I am extremely grateful that I get to live on the traditional territory of the Wolastoqiyik (Malisset) and Mi’Kmaq Peoples. I acknowledge the damage and injustice that has been done to First Nations Peoples by settlers and that still needs to be addressed and corrected. I promise to revere this land that I live, play and create on; to treat its resources with respect; and to support Indigenous business and cultural initiatives whenever and wherever possible.

Absolutely! But those quotations remind us why happiness can be so elusive.

There are many, many external causes of unhappiness, which can and do make happiness elusive. But hopefully the internal causes (self-doubt, cynicism, general negativity, lack of self-worth or self-confidence, etc.) can be worked on and overcome. That is my wish for everyone.

Oooh this has definitely roused many thoughts and feelings for me Jane. Whilst I agree with your introduction, for many of the images I have a different response/answer. (Mother told me I had an answer for everything!!🙂).
Yes, we can do work on ourselves if so inclined but, coming from a career in nursing and counselling, to tell anyone to look at their glass as being half-full or that they can reframe their thoughts ( even though it is possible ) can be seen as patronising and non-empathic. I realise you don’t mean it this way.
Perhaps it helps clarify where I’m coming from if I post this from a tweet I saw recently. It’s from someone who struggles with the ‘toxic positivity’ surrounding us all the time and not allowing negative feelings without the potential positives being thrown back at her.

Could say a lot more but I won’t! 😊

Thanks so much for contributing these important caveats/realities, Margiran. You are so right, it is so, so difficult for many people. And the public anger, divisiveness, and general lack of civility that have become more “acceptable”/pervasive in many regions in the past few years has only exacerbated all the triggers. Most of us have friends and/or family members who struggle to find anything positive in life. I’m glad there are professionals like you who may be able to provide the kind of support they need. Everyone deserves to experience some happiness in life.

What a positive, upbeat post. I love it. And it IS all about perception; what life means to us.

Timely reminder, Jane. As some wise person once said, “Happiness is a journey, not a destination.”

That cartoon of the two chaps on the bus has been hijacked over here as being first, the expectation of seeing Manchester United play and second, the reality 🙂

Too funny, Roy. I think you’re onto something! 🤣🤣⚽️ Actually, you give a very good example of what brings us happiness! Some might call them the little things, but we know better. For us it would be the Toronto Raptors!
