Thoughtful Thursday: when will we ever learn?

A quote by human rights activist Mohamad Safa (incorrectly attributed to Nelson Mandela on social media platforms, but I’m sure Mandela would have agreed with it). Can we at least hope these hurtful divisions will decrease with each succeeding generation?  Please?!

You Asked — “when will we ever learn?”

My Answer — We learn all the time.

    • Jane Fritz says:

Well, we like to think most of us do, yes. But that part of the title was in reference to learning to overcome racism and other forms of discrimination. I wish I could agree with you.

And what’s really bad is when the fools get power that serves their race, colour or religion.

    • Jane Fritz says:

Precisely. It’s a tool they use for their purposes. And it doesn’t help that the ones that get in power who aren’t necessarily fools by this definition don’t use their power to implement change … at least not very proactively.

I often wonder what happens to the good ones that they aren’t able to enact the kind of change that they want. Interesting with JT as one of his big ticket items was reconciliation and yet they turned down the money for a residential school registery list.

The most accurate quote ever. It reminds me / us that children are the coolest little people because they love most everybody They are born WITHOUT prejudice. Instead, it is an “acquired” affliction. This world would be a so much better place if we followed the lead of our children & LEARNED from them …

    • Jane Fritz says:

Exactly. We are not born racist. And the notion of “difference” seems to be pushed by people with influence who serve to benefit from encouraging these divides. Pitting people against each other for completely artificial reasons. Heartbreaking.

      • heimdalco says:

It IS heartbreaking. Whatever had been festering just below the surface was allowed / encouraged to breach the surface & explode by trump & his administration. That continues today … sigh. DISCLAIMER: not a political statement … just an observation of my own.

  4. Perfect, it’s so true 👍.

  5. Whoever said it, so true!

This quote is made great by the fact that it is so accurate. Thanks for sharing.
