I love the last one. So Britain is now trying to do trade deals with all those pink countries, with a mindset of reverting to past glories. They all seem to have very good historic reason not to be at all generous!

And the fourth one. Good old green Canada and Australia!

Lol. Good point, Barry. Without the muskets and cannons the Brexit folks will have to play nice. Maybe Boris and co should start by working on trade deals with the countries in white! 😉 Re the dark green peaceable kingdoms, don’t forget Portugal!

  3. I find it interesting that the US only ranks as having a medium peace index. I wonder how much gun violence has to do with that.

I would guess that having such a high rate of gun ownership and mass shootings, aggressive policing, and an unusually high rate of incarceration, plus being one of the few countries to still have the death penalty might have something to do with it. You could probably find a full description of how they make their calculations by googling.

      • That’s a good guess. And it seems to be somewhat correct (I just looked things up).

Gun violence doesn’t help our rank. And apparently, neither does militarization (as we’re one of the most militarized countries). All of this explains why the U.S. is ranked where it is.

Yup, that sounds right. And depending on the next election, it isn’t likely to become more peaceful any time soon. 😥 I’m looking forward to your perspectives in your just announced mini-series. You’re keeping your readers guessing!

        • Thanks! A large part of why I have things split as I have is because it would’ve just been too much for one post. I tried consolidating everything Bloomberg into one post, and it would’ve been in the neighborhood of 2,500 words!

Some quite surprising … the sports, the English invasions. I feel a little better that we are not the most obese country!
