I thought I’d try a Wordless Wednesday for a change. This widely disseminated image was taken by the Danish Meteorological Institute on the melting Greenland ice sheet earlier this month.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: I am extremely grateful that I get to live on the traditional territory of the Wolastoqiyik (Malisset) and Mi’Kmaq Peoples. I acknowledge the damage and injustice that has been done to First Nations Peoples by settlers and that still needs to be addressed and corrected. I promise to revere this land that I live, play and create on; to treat its resources with respect; and to support Indigenous business and cultural initiatives whenever and wherever possible.

And they’re so magnificent! Climate change is happening far faster in the far north and I don’t see how it can be reversed. It’s heartbreaking, the loss of a way of life after millennia and also of wildlife habitat, including my beloved polar bears.

Jane, a few years ago a polar bear floated down on a large chunk of ice and landed in Bonavista, our town . He was enticed by the smell from our local fried chicken restaurant, and wandered over there and scared the diners. He was rescued by animal control experts.
